Divine Inspiration

I didn't find my way to AA until a week before my fiftieth birthday. I had drunk for 38 years, the disease progressing each year, bringing more damage to those I loved while my world became smaller and smaller. Beginners are told to look for someone whose sobriety they admired. I was three weeks sober when I saw Diane and worked up my courage to ask her to sponsor me. My heart fell when she told me that she was already sponsoring several women but that she would temporarily sponsor me until I found a permanent sponsor. That was in 2004. I once commented that humans cannot break what God brought together and Diane replied that it wasn't for a lack of trying on my part. I was not an easy sponsee.
