Beyond Human Help

There are two types of spiritual awakening: the ‘white light’ spiritual awakening where God simply shows up one day and speaks directly to you and “the educational variety” through the Twelve Steps of AA. When I came to AA in 1999, I really hoped that I would have the “white light” spiritual awakening—kind of like taking the elevator instead of the stairs. The great benefit of a spiritual awakening of the educational variety, though, is that you can show others how to have one, which is not something you can do with the white light kind.
