Since I came from a family that drank way too much, recovery was not high on my list of things to do. But the summer of 1985 hadn’t been too good for me. It included my second suicide attempt, as well as the loss of one job after another for being caught under the influence, a car crash on the freeway and even the physical assault of a 12-year-old boy while in a blackout.
