Getting The Right Help
Early in sobriety, I confided in my sponsor and a few trusted alcoholics that I took medication for bouts of depression, anxiety and panic attacks that began in the last few years of my active alcoholism. The consensus was that it should be a goal of mine to reduce or eliminate these medications. My life would improve with AA to the point where medication would no longer be necessary. Working a strong AA program was the cure, they said. In fact, a well-known AA speaker at the time was known to say, “Depression can’t hit a moving target.”
