Walking Through Fear

In AA, we watch each other step up through challenges to do things we think we can’t possibly do. We pass on the courage

When I was about a year and a half sober in the early 80s, I attended a Southern California AA convention. The chair of the convention had a severe stammer, and as he welcomed us all to the opening of the convention he struggled with almost every word. The welcome took an extremely long time. The chair, however, did not appear to be concerned or embarrassed. He just soldiered through. I was not alone in being profoundly inspired that he did not let his obvious challenge impair his responsibility to welcome us.
