Glad I said Yes

Once she got a taste of service outside the group, her sobriety took off with a whole new adventure

When I got sober I followed all my sponsor’s suggestions—well, until she suggested I become GSR! I used to hear grumblings from our group every time the GSR gave their report, so I dismissed the prospect outright. Year after year I would get the same suggestion to be a GSR. I had a hard enough time staying sober for one-year commitments. The idea of a two-year commitment—where I’d have to meet people from other groups in the district, county and area—petrified me! It was unlikely that many of them knew transgender alcoholics, so me being the only non-binary trans woman in the room would be daunting.
