Letters from Home

While serving time for a DUI, the thing she treasured most was the love and compassion of her home group

The support of my home group has been a crucial part of my recovery. I generally attend meetings with this group four or five times a week. Identifying one group as my home group helps keep me accountable while allowing me to be vulnerable and transparent by sharing openly with friends I know well. I’ve found that to heal and recover from my alcoholism, I need to let others into my world. When I was drinking, I isolated a lot. Today, to achieve some level of emotional sobriety, I need the help of other recovering alcoholics. I can’t do this alone.
