Get To A Meeting

My sobriety date was August 1, 2019, but that's not my story. I came to my first meeting right from the hospital where I'd just survived my third intensive care stay. I got home at four p.m. I knew where the bottles were—after all I'd hidden them. I paced the hallway. I remembered a kindly nurse had made sure I saw the AA flyer with meeting times and the crises number circled. I called. I called my eldest son and he came and took me to my first meeting. I could not have driven myself. I was still very sick and weak and wobbly. My husband was already too drunk to drive me.
