“Perhaps you should find a different meeting.” That’s what the woman said to me as we stood shivering outside the church. I was newly sober and still relapsing. “This is a Twelve Step meeting and you’re struggling with Step One. You really cannot discuss the other Steps,” she said. “You belong in a newcomers’ meeting.”
