Down Comes the Wall

One day when I was very young, I was walking with a friend in the neighborhood where I grew up. We noticed that a neighbor was installing a fence after recently putting in a pool. My friend pointed toward the yard and said, “That fence is going to keep kids out, so they don’t drown in the pool.” I looked over and said, “How do you know it’s not going up to keep something on the inside from getting out?” I never forgot that moment. Certainly, walls go up for protection from the outside. However, they also go up to keep secrets in.
