Trust in God

You can’t just switch trust on

“Trust in God, clean house and work with others” was a saying I heard often in early sobriety. While I agreed with the sentiment, I came to realize that trust is not turned on like a light switch in an alcoholic like me. Years ago, I heard someone say, “I couldn’t trust others because I wasn’t trustworthy myself,” and that stuck with me as well. In any event, trust turned out to be an area where I would have to be satisfied with slow but steady improvement.
