This year they decided to have an AA member speak at their bar association event. It was not your typical luncheon!

Twelve years ago I was serving as the president of a local voluntary bar association of the judicial circuit in which I lived and worked. During a meeting in which the executive committee members were discussing programs and guests for luncheons for the upcoming year, I suggested we invite an AA member to be a guest speaker at one of our association’s meetings. Having practiced law for 13 years at the time (seven of those sober), I had seen plenty of clients and lawyers experience negative repercussions of active alcoholism. They ranged from charges of driving under the influence and other criminal offenses, to divorces and child-custody disputes, auto accidents and bankruptcies.
