Sober at 60

It’s never too late to turn your life around, get involved and begin to reach out and help others

My feet, swollen and painful, stuffed into oversized men’s slippers, shuffled awkwardly down a dimly lit hallway to the basement of a church to my first AA meeting. Standing at the entrance of the room were two young angels. Their vibrant smiles greeted me and my Al-Anon mom with sincere compassion and an understanding that I could not comprehend. They welcomed us with the warmest of hugs, their faces glowing in happiness. I didn’t understand why, but I knew then that I wanted what they had.
