His Higher Power’s voice found its way through all the static of early sobriety

When I arrived in the rooms of AA, I was living self-centered and completely out of touch with reality. I was desperate for change but stuck in a cycle of drinking that caused pain and disbelief, made worse by the fact that my life had begun with a promising start. I was born the middle child of an average American family. I grew up in a small city and moved to a rural area while I was young. We had security, morals, and enjoyed both work and play. My parents were employed, and I was granted an opportunity to succeed. Yet despite this solid foundation, for most of my teenage and early adulthood, I didn’t know who I was.
