Forty-seven years ago she stumbled into AA, still drunk, wearing six-inch high heels. A day she’ll never forget

On the verge of my 37th belly button birthday, I found myself in the pit of an unfathomably deep spiritual despair, despite the fact that materially I possessed more than I needed. I had a wonderfully spacious apartment in the heart of Greenwich Village, a new car and a 10-room country house with a wraparound veranda in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York.
