Innumerable Gifts

I’m sitting in the Vancouver airport waiting for my flight home after attending my first International AA convention. At the convention, I attended a Grapevine writing workshop where we had a chance to write down ideas for possible story submissions that we could contribute, and as I sit here, I feel a nudge from within telling me it’s time to put pen to paper. But I’m not talking about a metaphorical, spiritual nudge - I’m talking about a literal one. You see, today as I sit here writing this, I’m just a little over five years sober, and I’m also a little over five months pregnant. That little nudge coming from within is my son doing acrobatics and kicking my stomach, just like he has been over the past few days, and just like he did during the writer’s workshop.
