How on earth could he get sober in a jail where everyone was getting wasted? It was tough, but he made a solitary decision

Because our prison was so overpopulated, a third guy was added to our two-man cell. Imagine no room to walk, and the third inmate’s bed touching the toilet. Our new cellmate was lucky because I was in the process of procuring and producing “top shelf” jailhouse brew, made from fermenting fruit—the kind of top shelf that can cause you to go blind or develop diarrhea. Only the best for the best.
