Because our prison was so overpopulated, a third guy was added to our two-man cell. Imagine no room to walk, and the third inmate’s bed touching the toilet. Our new cellmate was lucky because I was in the process of procuring and producing “top shelf” jailhouse brew, made from fermenting fruit—the kind of top shelf that can cause you to go blind or develop diarrhea.
