Finding the More in Service

Upon retiring he faced a choice—general service or gym rat? He let his Higher Power lead the way

So I became one of those drunks that went searching for an easier, softer way that included drugs and religion. Ultimately, these paths led me to very dark places. Luckily, I became hopeless enough to accept that I was a real alcoholic and my only road to recovery was the AA program. I became willing to go to any lengths to achieve sobriety. I got back to meetings, got in touch with my sponsor, and I got back to work on the Steps. As promised in the Big Book, I soon became happy, joyous, and free. But being an alcoholic, I wanted more, more happiness, joy, and freedom.
