When he finally stopped drinking, he could rejoin the world outside

The way I admitted that I was an alcoholic happened quite by accident—or are there any accidents? I was reading a copy of my community's free newspaper and I saw an advertisement for a treatment center near my home. I also had one close friend and a few other acquaintances in AA. Timidly at first, I ran the idea by these friends that I thought maybe treatment would help me. But what is treatment, I gasped, suddenly afraid of the whole idea. I had drank for 20 years—some of it binge drinking.
