Just Visiting

A woman realizes that she needed what she saw in the AA meeting she visited

My reaction to an AA meeting may differ from those of my classmates. See, I have been in recovery for 4 years – 5 on April 14, 2012. It was not an easy decision to make. No one wants to admit that they are an alcoholic – not at first, anyway. I actually felt that same fear in the pit of my gut when I found out that students from my class would be "observing" meetings. I was going to have to admit it all over again, but this time to a group that may not be as empathetic. It's a scary feeling, but I did it once, and I have decided to do it again. That's why I decided to make my paper a little different than others. It's not about one meeting for me, or a single "group member". It's about my safe place and my friends.
