He had to be sober and behind prison walls before he began to trust his Higher Power

I was barely 23 years old and the people in AA already knew me as "hopeless." In a span of 14 months, I had relapsed six times. I always believed I was too smart for the AA program, so I created, and worked, "my" own version: the easier softer program. Obviously, every attempt at "my" program failed. No matter how determined, positive, and honest, I thought I could be, it never lasted long and failure was mine once again.
