A chairperson's opinions on faith made her feel like she didn't belong

We had a newcomer at my home group last night—a teenage boy with his mom. The chair, an old-timer, had selected spiritual experience as the topic. He directed his first comments to the newcomer: “Don’t let the God stuff scare you away,” he said. “We don’t bash any religion in here. In fact, we tell people if you feel connected to a religion, by all means use that.” He also shared that he had struggled with religion.
