Adjudicated

A reader responds to an article from the September 2013 issue of the Grapevine

The letter from a reader entitled, "Court-Ordered," in the September 2013 Grapevine aimed at a controversy close to home, but missed the mark; missed the whole target really. Twenty-nine years of active sobriety in AA and a career, degrees, licenses and experience with adjudicated clients in the treatment field lead this sober clinician to differ with AAs who consider signature slips to be "affiliation" or endorsement of the courts, probation and parole, corrections, drug court programs, Departments of Motor Vehicles, etc. Most of my addicted/alcoholic clients come with papers from one or more of these state bureaucracies. And this is in a state whose Supreme Court has ruled AA is a religion, and where 12-Step groups are the only "recovery support" around.
